Is the Garmin Edge GPS 305 with HR+CAD worth $399? In the event of a collision how likely is it to be damaged?
My son wants a GPS for his bike races that can be up to 800 miles (usually in France or Italy). I was told Garmin makes the best GPS units for bikes. Is this true?
Its going to last your son along time hopefully. I also use it for kayaking just to measure how quickly I am going. Its a good all around unit that could be applied to more than the normal bicycle computer.
The battery only lasts, as Garmin states “12 hours”, but I have been getting an average of 10 with both cad and hr. The heart rate chest strap has a user replaceable battery which is nice. The battery usually runs around $2.50 and gamine states in the manual that it will last 3yrs used one hour a day. But I’ve had it for a while not having to change it yet, about 4 months doing several centuries ,races, and regular training.
As for the damage I have fallen a few times on ice and gravel I situated the Gamin Edge on the stem that connects the handle bars to the bike. It has a solid fit to the bike so it wont fly off.
